Community! You did it!!
As of March 2021, that main wall is 90% done and we are on a break to raise the funds needed for the back of the house - dedicated to Sandra Bland and the #SayHerName movement.

Saying someone’s name confirms their existence.

Finishing the Mural with a quote from Sandra Bland

House+2020.jpg

“My Beautiful Kings and Queens, know that somebody cares about you, someone loves you and knows you can go out there and do great things”

— Sandra Bland
#SandySpeaks
#SayHerName
#SeeBlackWomen

This is a quote from one of Sandra Bland’s Sandy Speaks episodes. She always spoke from the heart and spoke of love and liberation. This quote, and this quote alone, will fill the entire back wall of my house which can be seen from 2 blocks away. Everyone can feel joy from these words and most specifically children… 2 blocks away is the Playground @ Prescott Elementary School.

Fiscal Sponsorship provided By Alena Museum

Alena Museum is a 501(c)3 nonprofit with the mission of providing critical safe spaces for the African Diaspora to express and cultivate their cultural identity in the face of gentrification.

Development has come at the cost of Black Health, Land Ownership, and Belonging. Now’s the time to reclaim the urban landscape. We cultivate community ownership and creative control in real estate development.

Rooted in West Oakland, CA, we are breaking silos and conventions in neighborhood planning to build belonging across the African Diaspora.
